Down Deep

Dig to the centre of the Earth, one tap at a time.

A one-finger mining game. Tap left or right to break the rock beneath you, dodge what sticks out, and stay ahead of the cave-in falling from above.

How it plays

One finger. A long way down.

  1. Tap left or right

Each tap breaks the block below your lift. Roots, boulders and crystals stick out of the column, so strike the clear side. Hard blocks take two hits.

  2. Outrun the cave-in

Rubble falls from above the whole time. Every hit pushes it back; every pause lets it close in. If it reaches you, the run is over.

  3. Go deeper

Thirteen layers, from Soil to the Inner Core. At 6,371 m you reach the centre of the Earth, and the core keeps going.

Why it feels good

Made to be felt, heard and played fair.

  • Feel every strike

Each material has its own hand-tuned vibration, played through Core Haptics on iPhone. Hard rock, close calls, layer breakthroughs and the cave-in each have one too.

  • Hear the crunch

Every strike is built live from layered tone and grit, then crumbles away. All 13 layers have their own strike sound, and the music drops lower as you go deeper and speeds up when the rubble gets close.

  • Lit by one lamp

Hand-made pixel art on our own engine. Your helmet lamp is the only light, deeper layers are darker, and the falling rubble is real physics, rock by rock.

  • Fair leaderboards

Our leaderboards only count runs our server has checked, so the top of the table belongs to real players, not bots or auto-clickers.

  • Ads only when you ask

No banners and no pop-ups between runs. You choose to watch an ad for a reward: a continue after a cave-in, a free chest or double gold.

The way down

Thirteen layers to the core.

Each layer has its own rock, colours, obstacles and strike sound, and gets darker than the last. Break into a new one and the cave-in falls back.

On the way

Things worth digging for.

  • Hidden places

Sunken galleons, dinosaur graves, an old metro tunnel with a gold train, glowing grottos, royal tombs and giant geodes, each with a relic chest inside.

  • Gold and gems

Strike the side a gold nugget sits on to grab it. Gems are much rarer, and worth the hunt.

  • Gold Rush

Strike fast enough to fill the meter, then every hit pays extra gold for six seconds.

  • Quakes

Rarely, the ground shakes and the obstacles below swap sides. Watch the column.

Keep coming back

Short runs. Deep progress.

  • Four power-ups

Rock Shield bounces the cave-in back. Second Wind lets you survive hitting an obstacle. Shoring freezes the cave-in. Dynamite blasts straight down. Buy them with gold and upgrade each to level 5 in the Workshop.

  • 70 characters, 96 items

Every character has its own face and head shape. Dress them in hats, tops, trousers, boots and lamps, and pick from 18 pickaxes, each with its own hit effect.

  • Something new every day

A 7-day login calendar, three daily missions and five weekly ones that rotate, so no two days ask the same thing.

  • 51 achievements

In Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond. Some items can only be earned this way.

  • Race your friends

Friends from Game Center and the world leaderboard. During a run you see how many metres are left to beat your best or the next friend.

  • Pets

    Coming in a future update.

Questions

Good to know

Which phones is it on?

iPhone and Android. Both versions are coming soon.

How much does it cost?

Down Deep is free to download. You only see an ad when you choose a reward, such as a continue after a cave-in.

Do I need an internet connection?

No, you can dig offline. Leaderboards, daily rewards and saving your progress to your account need a connection.

Who is it for?

Anyone who likes a quick game with real depth: one finger to play, a long way down. The first run is slower and shows you the ropes, and every character is an original design.
